2 German Fragonard Courting Couple plates/Love Story

This beautiful plate duo features the Fragonard Love Story Motif sometimes referred to as the Courting Couple. Fragonard, a French painter of the Rococo style, was very popular in the latter half of the 18th century. Rococo painters featured pastoral landscapes and incorporated in their paintings myths of love, cherubs, cupids, venus and mythical creatures. The works of the Rococo painters are highly sought after and are often found on china plates, teacups, and vases.

These particular plates were found in a historical house in downtown Mobile, AL.
